A fragment of a copper-alloy Roman finger ring. Only the shoulders and bezel of the ring survive intact, the remainder missing due to old breaks. The shoulders are flat, oval shaped in section and expand to encompass the oval shaped bezel. The bezel contains a central S-coil motif either side of which are recessed fields filled with the remains of red enamel. Adam Daubney has done some research into Enamelled Romano-British Finger Rings, where he identifies a classification, which would make this example a Group 5 'Curves'. He also suggests this design is typical of East A…

Description: A silver Roman denarius that has been incorporated into a finger ring as the bezel. The hoop is rectangular in cross-section, flaring at the shoulders with a longitudinal groove along the centre of the outer face of each shoulder. The outer end of each shoulder has been soldered to the reverse of the denarius. The whole object including the coin then appears to have been coated with white metal. A recessed rectangular panel is visible to one side of the inner face of the rear of the hoop and possible lettering can be seen here, but this is almost entirely covered by a fold…

There is also a raised ridge decorating the outer face at the point where the band joins the bezel. The surface of the metal is much corroded and the breaks well worn. This ring is not easy to place within Henig's Typology, but is …

A small plain cast copper-alloy finger ring. It is a simple band, with a width of 28mm, and the object has no discernible decoration. There are three small chips, all concentrated to the same area on the outer face of the band, but it is otherwise intact. It was likely cast, as there is no visible joining line. It weighs 1.24g, and has a relatively good state of preservation. The diameter is quite small (15mm), so it was likely belonging to a child. It has a dark grey-green patina, and it has a good state of preservation. It is slightly sub-circular in shape, which suggests that it m…
