Strap-end made from a single piece of copper alloy sheet folded in half. The exterior is highly polished and has traces of linear decoration, perhaps rouletted double rows of triangles. The attachment end is closed with a single copper-alloy rivet with a neat flat head at either end. One end of the sheet is neatly rectilinear, but the other is more irregular with possibly part of a very small rivet hole. The sheet is 14 mm wide and the strap-end is 11 mm long. The decoration of rouletted double triangles is characteristically medieval, and the construction with a single well-made …

An incomplete composite copper-alloy strap end with a cast copper-alloy forked spacer. The forked spacer and one of the sheet outside faces survive. This strap end is rectangular in shape with a tapering terminal, sometimes refered to as 'tongue-shaped' it measures 41mm in length and 11mm in width. Similar strap ends have been found in London and are dated to between the late 13th and early 15th centuries (Egan and Pritchard 1991, 143-146).

Strap-end made from a single piece of copper alloy. The attachment end has two copper-alloy rivets which protrude from the surface; the end is shaped slightly around them. A shallow groove runs down the length of the strap-end from between the two rivets. The sides of the strap-end are shaped; it tapers slightly, and then has a pair of projections on each side at the terminal end. Between these projections is a third rivet, this time flush with the surface and well concealed; the groove is probably interrupted by this rivet, although as the surface is worn and corroded it is hard t…

An Anglo-Saxon copper-alloy strap end of Gabor Thomas' type A, dated to between the late 8th century and the end of the 10th century (Geake 2001, illustration 11). It is roughly rectangular in shape with a swollen middle and a tapering terminal, measuring 42mm in length and 11mm in width, at its widest point. The terminal is moulded and decorated to resemble an animals head with a tapering snout. Above this head the rest of the front face is decorated with a panel of cross-hatched grooves and a transverse zig-zag. At the attachment end the remains of two rivet holes are visible. The t…

A copper alloy complete crescentic strap end in good condition, measuring 41mm in length and 31mm in width. It is made of two parts, a cast front plate and sub-circular sheet underplate which is held on by four rivets, which remain in situ. The cast front plate has a roughly triangular shaped terminal decorated with low relief to resemble a bush or tree. The crescent shaped part which protrudes from the base of this 'tree' has engraved lines on it, perhaps representing the roots of the 'tree.' Crescentic strap ends are dated to the 15th century (Fingerlin 1971, figs 312-317).
