Object type: FLAT AXEHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete copper-alloy early Bronze Age flat axehead. All that remains is the blade end, which is flared and roughly triangular in shape. The worn and corroded cutting edge is crescentic in form, extending beyond both sides of the axe. The surface is badly corroded with little of the original patina remaining.
This is the blade end from an incomplete axe of Bronze Age date. Its form, size and lack of flanges suggest it is a flat axe rather than a palstave and as such it dates to the Early Bronze Age, c.2150-1500 BC.

An incomplete copper-alloy spear of probable Middle to Late Bronze Age date. Only the tip survives, the remainder now missing due to old breaks. It is triangular in form with prominent mid rib and flattened blades that give the surviving fragment a lozenge shaped cross-section. The tip is rounded and perhaps incomplete due to old breaks, while in the breaks towards the butt end can be seen the remains of a central circular socket. It measures 50.01mm in length, 10.04mm in width, 7.87mm in thickness, and 8.31g in weight.

A fragment of a middle Bronze Age side-looped spearhead. Only the socket survives. This is circular in cross-section, hollow and expands slightly towards its outer end. To either side of the inner end there is a small attachment loop, which would have allowed it to be secured to the shaft. The surface of the metal is heavily corroded with a silvery coating visible in places.
Spearheads with side loops date generally to the Acton Park and Taunton phases of the middle Bronze Age, c.1550-c.1250 BC (Davis 2017). Without the blade they cannot be dated more precisely.

A complete Early Bronze Age stone arm guard (bracer) dating to circa 2300-2100 BC. Broadly rectangular in plan in section it has polished bevelled edges. At either end are located central circular drilled apertures to enable fixing to the arm. The faces of the stone have been smoothed. One end is slightly wider than the other. Broadly linear striations on both faces are the result of the bow having snapped-back during firing.
A very similar armguard was recovered from the Stonehenge Archer burial assemblage, radiocarbon dated to circa 2300 BC (Heath 2012: 122-123) whilst two were…

Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A fragment of a Bronze Age developed flat axe or palstave dating to circa 1500-1100 BC. The fragment comprises the narrow rectangular butt. It is triangular in section, tapering to the butt. The sides are straight and the faces flat.
The fragmentary nature of the axe makes typological identification difficult but is consistent with either a developed flat axe or palstave of Middle Bronze Age date.
Length: 29.5mm; Width: 24.5mm; Thickness: 8.4mm; Weight: 25.11g.
