A fragment of an iron probable late medieval to early post-medieval scabbard chape. Only the lower end of the object survives. This is a cast, hollow flat triangular chape with a jagged break around its upper edge and a flattened globular terminal projecting from its lower end. The surface of the metal is heavily corroded.
Scabbard chapes are more commonly made from sheet metal, but cast examples in copper alloy and iron are known. Compare PAS records: PUBLIC-03A532, LON-0444D0 and WMID-C808A3. It seems likely to be of late medieval to early post-medieval date.

The zoomorphic terminal has with two wide slanting grooves for ears, two vertical grooves for eyes, a V-shaped groove on either side for the open mouth, and a moulded groove running around the top to form an up-turned nose. A hole runs right through along the long axis from the back of the head to the open mouth, and this would have held the end of a rectilinear handle. A complete copper-alloy Medieval enamelled harness pendant. It is quatrefoil in shape, the outer edge conprising four rounded lobes, each with a small projection between. The outer face of each lobe is decorated with three raised petals as in the upper section of a fleur-de-lis. In the centre of the outer face there is a square linear border surrounding a raised lion en passant. The remains of red and black enamel can be seen in places alongside small traces of gilding. A complete copper-alloy post-medieval knife handle terminal. The terminal is shaped like an horse's hoof and has iron corrosion. It curves downwards slightly at an angle and has a flat outer end. The inner surface is covered with iron corrosion where it would have joined the iron tang of a knife originally.
A number of similar example have now been recorded with the PAS: e.g. SF-6B23D0, NLM-61F60B, SUR-1DCA47, IOW-E044C2, SOM-A63564 and LVPL-2ABAE1.
Egan (2005, 93, no.398) illustrates a similar example from a 15th to 16th century excavated context in London.

A fragment of a copper alloy Roman strip bracelet/armlet terminal of multiple motif type dating to the Roman period, c. 250-410 AD. The fragment is flattened rectangular in cross-section, with a slight curve. The upper surface of the bracelet is decorated with a stamped ring-dot motif, with a double row of dots and triangular grooves, and at the terminal end transverse line of three small incised ring and dots.

A pair of complete Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) copper-alloy tweezers dating to circa AD 43-1066. The tweezers are sub-rectangular in plan. In section, the arm end is bent out shape at a 90 degree angle to the loop. The loop is circular and contains the remains of a complete wire suspension loop. The suspension loop has two coiled ends to keep it in place. The arms of the tweezers flare outwards and the tip of one arm is folded inwards at 90 degrees. This is the blade end from an incomplete axe of Bronze Age date. Its form, size and lack of flanges suggest it is a flat axe rather than a palstave and as such it dates to the Early Bronze Age, c.2150-1500 BC.

The stem is oval in cross-section, and is pierced at the tip; the tip is in line with the end of a simple S-shaped bit which has two channels and two clefts. The shaft is hollow. An incomplete Anglo-Scandinavian cast copper-alloy bridle bit link of early medieval date. It has a rectangular shaft that is D-shaped in section with flat back and rounded front face which has a rounded boss before the incomplete end. At the complete end, there is a knobbed loop. Length 41.21mm, width 20.38mm, weight 9.99g.
Similar examples are recorded through the Portable Antiquities Scheme (see for example SF-DD8A4E, SF-59F6E2, SF-C06A13, SF-F8CCA3) and have been studied by D. Williams, who suggests their possible use as harness links and dating to the 11th century …

A fragment Roman copper-alloy Colchester Derivative Harlow Spring/double lug brooch dating to circa AD 43-70. It is T-shaped in plan. The extant elements of the brooch consist of the wings and part of the upper bow. The wings are hemispherical and open at the reverse. On the reverse, in the centre, is a double lug with upper and lower circular apertures. An incomplete copper-alloy Roman Colchester derivative rear hook bow brooch. It is missing the spring, pin and lower bow/ catchplate due to old breaks. The wings are semi-cylindrical in form, separated by an integrally cast rear facing hook. The bow is D-shaped in section, tapering to a pointed foot that is missing its tip due to old breaks. It has decoration on its front face comprising a central vertical rib that runs from rear hook to foot and grooves along the edges of the bow.
It measures 29mm in length, 21.9mm in width at wings, and 5g in weight.

An incomplete and very worn and corroded copper-alloy Roman Colchester bow brooch. It is missing most of the spring, pin and catchplate due to old breaks, and has suffered from extensive post-depositional wear and corrosion. The brooch has flat rectangular wings, separated at the centre of the head by an integral spring and hook, both of which are incomplete due to old breaks. The bow is oval in section and rectangular in form, tapering to a pointed foot. The entire brooch measures 47.1mm in length, 11.5mm in width at wings, 5.5mm in width at bow, 3 and 5.61g in weight.

A complete lead spindle whorl of uncertain date. It is plano-convex in shape with a convex upper surface and a flat base. It is sub circular in shape with a central circular hole of internal diameter 9.2mm. The weight is 23.40mm in diameter and is 11.8mm thick. It weighs 34.68g. It has a light gray/white patina and is decorated with low bosses.
Objects such as these were used for a long period of time for a variety of functions with little change in form.
