A sherd from the body of a large late Iron Age to early Roman ceramic earthenware vessel. A thick-walled vessel with a very hard, coarse fabric tempered with spare poorly sorted white quartz (<2mm) and frequent red clay-like pellets (grog?). Dark brown core and surfaces with smooth outer face decorated with a series of parallel grooves. It is too small in size to determine the original form of the vessel.

A sherd from the rim of a Roman greyware (GX) vessel. The rim is everted with an oval cross-section. The fabric is fine and soft and the olnly visible inclusions are sparse rounded white quartz sand (0.5mm). The surface and the core are a reduced mid-grey colour, while the margins are an oxidised reddish.

A body sherd of an incomplete Late Bronze Age to Iron Age ceramic vessel dating to circa 1000 BC-AD 43. It is broadly square-shaped in plan with uneven edges. The fabric is hard and coarse with moderate sub-angular white stone, <2.5mm. Amongst this are moderately distributed shell inclusions, <1mm. The exterior fabric is an oxidised light orange while the interior fabric is reduced dark grey.

Report by J Plouviez: The pottery of interest is the hoard container, a semi-complete small, slender, narrow mouthed jar. A fairly hard mid grey fabric with a moderate amount of silver mica in it, and a moderate amount of variable sized white sand grains (including at least one piece over 5mm across). The pot has been reconstructed from about 60 fragments which show extensive very recent damage, presumably from the plough. The base of the inside of the vessel has a raised area within a circular ridge. The underneath of the base has clear striations indicating it to be a wheel thrown vessel. It is a dark grey colour on the inner and outer surfaces with a clear pink colour core. The fabric has a soft texture.
