A sherd of Early Medieval pottery. It has a light sandy fabric with black surfaces, and is tempered with fine grits. The bodysherd has traces of grooved decoration. It most likely comes from an Anglo-Saxon vessel such as a decorated bi-conical urn. The recovery of fragments of molten copper alloy cruciform brooches nearby would support this interpretation. Other sherds of similar pottery found nearby include: SF-277A04;SF-273100;SF-278C4`;SF-2766A4;SF-26FE95. The sherd measures 41.69mm x 32.13mm and weighs 10.17g.. The surviving surface has combed decoration comprising a transverse band at one edge, with diagonal grooves covering the remaining area of the surface.
