A silver-plated copper-alloy, probable contemporary copy, of a silver radiate of Philip I (AD 244-9), dating to the period AD 247-9 (Reece Period 12). It is a hybrid with reverse type of Gordian III (AD 238-44), PROVIDENT AVG, Providentia standing left, holding wand over globe and septre. Prototype Mint, Rome. A hybrid of this type exists - RIC IV, pt 3, p. 81, cf. no. 101A - but with the early obverse legend of Philip I, IMP M IVL PHILIPPVS AVG, as opposed to the IMP PHILIPPVS AVG on this coin.

Mint of Gaul. Cunetio p. 105, no. 716. This issue was struck in base silver. This coin is either heavily corroded, hence masking the silver, or is a contemporary copy in baser metal.
