Slightly brown stained unpolished flaked axehead with a modern chip showing a grey flint core. Slightly plano-convex in form with all-over working could be of Mesolithic or Neolithic date. The blade edge has large longitudinal flake scars rather than classic tranchet scars, perhaps supporting a Neolithic rather than Mesolithic date. 117.69mm, in length, 40.41mm width, 26.33mm in thickness, 134.58g in weight.

A worked flint trancet axe formed from pale orange/brown flint and of probable Mesolithic date. It is loosely plano-convex in form and of tranchet type, although is relatively small in size. A large and complete tranchet type axehead of Mesolithic date. It has patinated and stained surfaces that are mixed grey in colour on one face and mixed brown on the other. The axe is roughly struck, plano-convex in form and with many heavy, large flake scars. The sides and butt end are steeply flaked and the cutting edge has an irregular, convex form. There are areas of cortex visible on both faces, as well as minor plough damage that in places reveals the unpatinated dark grey/black flint beneath the surface. This axe measures 180mm in length, 60.69mm in maximum width, 39.47mm in th…

A patinated bifacially worked flint implement struck from a brown flint that has mottled pale grey to brown patinated surfaces. It is roughly oval shaped in form with rounded ends and an oval shaped section that is slightly thicker on one side of the object than the other. One face has extensive flake removal while the opposite face largely retains its cortex with areas of flaking around the edges. The edges are slightly rounded, with limited retouch or flaking, one side almost having an S-shaped profile and both being of differing form. The object narrows to one end that is slightly …

Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
An incomplete, snapped flint tranchet axe of Mesolithic to Neolithic date, struck from a pale yellow/orange flint. One end survives intact, probably the butt end or the unfinished blade end, snapped towards the centre due to old breaks and a flaw in the stone. It is oval shaped in section, bifacially worked with multiple flake scars on both face and limited crude edge retouch. Orange staining on both faces indicates plough damage. It measures 60.50mm in length, 49.31mm in width, 22.39mm in thickness and 71.09g in weight. This is an incomplete struck flint axe of either Mesolithic or N…
