Description: an incomplete and somewhat damaged gold finger ring dating to the Post-Medieval period, c. 1600-1700. The hoop is 'D' shaped in section and rather worn at its base, distorted on one side due to old damage. On the inside of the hoop at one shoulder is a rather crude inscription, which appears to read; 'P. HIL(?)'-the script seemingly of 17th century character. At the apex of the hoop is a large integral hollow bezel, comprising of a central pyramidal setting with its pale green stone still intact, flanked by two smaller oval settings (one missing its setting), one of which…

Description: A gold finger ring likely to be post medieval date. Consisting of a now distorted oval-shaped hoop, which is decorated and shaped so that from the outer face it appears formed from two crossing bands, one of which is plain and the other decorated with longitudinal borders with incised cross-hatching within. The outer face is flat and the inner face is smooth, undecorated and slightly rounded. Discussion: No published parallel could be found for this ring, having a rounded inner face is unusual but its function and a finger ring remains most likely due to its size and d…
