A fragment of a copper-alloy late Iron Age brooch of a possible Kragenfibel rosette type (Mackreth, 2011, pg 28). It is very corroded, making typogology difficult. The wing shape suggests a coil spring, although missing, and the bow seems to have a seperate plate, which is mostly corroded away. It is decorated with longnitudinal lines. The reverse is flat, with a small D shaped bow. It appears similar to examples in Mackreth, 2011, pg 19, plate 16, 5799, 5807, 13755 Length: 28.86mm Width: 18.57mm Weight: 5.80g

An incomplete cast copper-alloy Langton Down (Mackreth C1) bow brooch of Late Iron Age or early Roman date, c. 25-60 AD. It is missing its foot, catchplate, spring and pin, though otherwise it survives intact. It demonstrates a broken tubular head with a raised moulding dividing it from the 'D' sectioned plain bow, which extends and tapers along its length before truncating in an irregular old break. Preserved in rather poor condition with an uneven greenish brown patina, it survives to a length of 35.19mm, 25.30mm wide at the head, and 3.39mm thick at the midpoint of the bow. …

It demonstrates a four-coiled spring, the outer coils arching in a semicircle above the head before plunging to form the pin. The head expands into a broadly oval shaped body demonstrating raised decoration in the form of an inner hollow lenticular moulding. At the base of the body, the lower bow quickly tapers before flattening into an 'L' shaped forwar…
