Cast copper-alloy Viking 9th/10th century mount with Jellinge or Borre Style decoration. The mount is of square shape with rounded corners and domed cross-section, the centre being raised about 5-10mm. The four rounded corners all have rivet holes with rivets still inside. These were probably used for attachment to a leather strap or belt. Most of the mount is not decorated with openwork style decor; there are only two or three perforations with uneven outline. Small piece of Samian ware, possibly coming from a vessel of form Dragendorff 37 which is was a hemispherical bowl - a very common form from c. AD75 onwards. While the inside is smooth and undecorated, some of the typical upper border of the decoration remains on the outside.
