It is of Wattisfield area production and probably dates to the 2nd half of the 4th century AD. The sherd measures 49.23mm in width, 45.23mm in height, 20.30mm in thickness at flange (7.87mm at wall of vessel), and weighs 28.08g.

It has an oxidised orange fabric with small white and black inclusions, probably Much Hadham ware (HAX), c.late 3rd to 4th centuries AD. Roman samian ware vessel rim sherd. The sherd is trapezoid, with a shallow 'D' shaped rim along the top edge. The inner surface is damaged, with a large amount of the slip missing. There is a small amount of damaged to the outer edge. There is no visible decoration. The sherd is 26.03mm long, the body wall is 3.27mm thick and the rim is 4.93mm wide, 4.10mm thick. It weighs 1.72 grams.
