An early medieval silver penny, a Danelaw imitation of Alfred of Wessex's (AD 871-99) London Monogram type dating to c.AD880-94, Mackay Danelaw Type A2 (imitating London Type A2; North 463). Ref: MacKay 2019: 91 (no.12), pl. 4 (no.69).
The coin uses the same obverse die as Mackay no. 12 (pl. 4, no.69) and has a previously unrecorded reverse die. This is in a similar style to the reverse of Mackay no. 12 with reverse-barred N but has several additional design elements: a cross of five pellets above and cross of four edges below the monogram, and c…
