A cast lead weight, probably a spindle whorl, of Roman or later date. It is conical in form with flat back face and slightly flattened top with central circular aperture. There are no traces of any decorative elements. It measures 17.19mm in diameter, 5.49mm in height/thickness, and weighs 7.21g. This is a small lead spindle whorl that may date to any point from the Roman period onwards, although a later date is perhaps more likely given its form and findspot.

Object type: MINIATURE OBJECT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete cast copper-alloy miniature socketed axe head of probable Late Iron Age to Roman date. It is missing one corner of the blade due to old breaks but is otherwise complete. The axe is of socketed type with triangular profile, tapering to a rounded blade end that is worn and exhibits evidence of post-depositional damage. At the socket end the object is oval shaped in section with two moulded transverse ridges and a small oval shaped side loop or handle. The centre of the socket end has a shallow circular indentation or drilled hole that represents the socket. The surfaces of…

Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A large, unpatinated worked flint nodule. It is sub-triangular in section with cortex at the butt end. At the blade end there is evidence of limited edge rotuch and the removal of relatively large flakes, some of which may be the result of plough damage. This is probably a simple core with relatively limited usage. It measures 135.52mm in length, 67.93mm in width, 59.42mm in thickness, and weighs g. This flint nodule was probably worked during the later phases of the Prehistoric period, perhaps c.3,500-1 BC.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy object, probably a fastening of some kind, of Roman or later date. It has an incomplete oval shaped plate with the remains of what appears to be a central oval shaped aperture, most of which is missing due to old breaks. At the base(?) of the object is an integral terminal that is circular in section, folded into a U-shape, and with a globular terminal knop. The entire object is worn, with a dark green/brown patina and some encrustation. It measures 27.96mm in length, 12.38mm in width, 5.89mm in thickness, and weighs 7.25g. The precise form and fu…

Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete cast copper-alloy object of uncertain form. It is roughly semi-circular in form and oval shaped in section, terminating in old breaks along one side. The surfaces are encrusted and corroded in places, perhaps also suggestive of exposure to high temperatures. It is uncertain whether this is a poorly preserved object or instead a fragment of metal working debris (or both?). It measures 32.92mm in length, 20.43mm in width, 8.79mm in thickness, and weighs 19.51g. This object could date to any point from the Bronze Age onwards.

A sheet copper-alloy buckle plate of Roman or later date. It is formed from a single rectangular sheet folded in half to form an upper and lower plate of equal size, the lower plate slightly shorter in length. At the frame end the plate is cylindrical in form to accomodate the now missing buckle frame and at the open end there are two circular rivet holes, one of which contains a copper-alloy rivet with globular head. There are no traces of decoration and the object has a mid green patina. It measures 21.59mm in width, 14.76mm in length, 3.33mm in thickness at frame end, and weighs 2.…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete cast lead object of uncertain function and date. It is flat, rectangular in form and terminates at one end (base?) in old breaks. The front face of the object has moulded decoration. This comprises a border containing multiple diagonal or transverse lines. At the centre of the plate are six moulded bosses, two small bosses to either side, with two larger ones at the centre arranged in a roughly lozenge shaped pattern. The bosses are all connected by a network of vertical and diagonal lines. At the base of the object close to two of the smaller bosses the plate terminates…
