A cast copper alloy strap fitting of 13th or 14th century date. Traces of gilding remain. The fitting comprises a U-shaped strip whose fold is rounded and expanded, and which narrows in plan view. The two plates thus formed are are pierced by two rivets each with a rounded head. The fitting is probably intended for a wooden board or a thick leather strip. There are traces of gilding and enamel on one side.
Egan and Pritchard (1991: 155-6) illustrate a very similar example, no. 728, which they suggest may be a strap end, from a late 13th to early 14th century context. It seems more …

Cast cu-alloy pendant tht was part of a sword belt fitting (for a complete one please see SOM-EF4646) dating from the early post-medieval period, i.e. the late 16th century. The pendant was part of a set of three all of which were attached to a bigger sword belt mount (a fragment of this bigger mount - the small loop - is still attached to the top bit of this hanger). All four element were decorated with a vine leaf foliage design and there is evidence of iron rivets in this remaining pendant.
