A complete copper alloy Roman phallic mount. The shaft is elongated, triangular in cross-section, with a concave reverse and tapers gradually towards the outer end. The tip is rounded and defined by a raised transverse ridge. A small rounded testicle projects to each side of the base of the shaft. To either end of the reverse a long circular cross-sectioned attachment lug projects. It survives in fine condition with a shiny green patina. A complete cast copper-alloy repousse sheet-metal mount in the form of a dog or wolf, dating c. 1100-1300. The animal is depicted as passant left in the attitude of leaping, the tail demonstrating a circular knop at its end and curled into an 'S' shape. The fore and hind legs are stubby, the body demonstrating irregularly spaced incised grooves that infer the presence of ribs, fur and contouring between the legs and body itself. The head of the animal has also been decorated with engraving, rendering the mouth, eyes and 'scaled' motifs that give the impression of hair. Directly above …

Gold sheet mount with applied filigree and granulation ornament on the upper surface. The sheet is an irregular discoid shape which flares slightly on one side to incorporate space for a pierced hole, probably for attachment. The remains of at least two more pierced holes survive around the edge of the sheet, spaced at 12, 6 and 9 o'clock (as photographed). The upper surface is decorated with an applied, serrated-band filigree design contained within a circular outer border. It comprises four separate U-shaped motifs with outward-turning spiral terminals, the bottom of the U faci…

A complete copper-alloy medieval mount. It is very roughly square in shape with rounded corners and there is a small triangular projection extending from one end. The outer face of mount is decorated with cross-hatched grooves and there is a separate copper-alloy rivet through the centre. A groove separates the projection from the main body of the mount. Both sides of the triangular area curve inwards slightly, producing the effect of an animal's snout. It is in good condition. A gilded silver mount of early medieval date. It is roughly oval-shaped and the front depicts a human mask flanked by stylised birds' heads. Substantial gilding survives across the front surface, with areas missing or worn off on the mask's brow and nose, and the outer border above the brow. The mask appears to wear a hood or head-dress which covers the hair and runs below the chin. In the centre is a triangular stamped motif with a central 'trunk' and several 'branches' on each side. Traces of additional stamps are now obscured by wear and damage. The mask's eyes are pellets set w…
