A incomplete Late Iron Age to Roman copper-alloy mirror dating to circa 150 BC-AD 100. The extant element consists of the handle. The upper element bifurcates into two arms which would held the held the mirror in a slot at the apex. Faint traces of the mirror are contained within the slot. The arms terminate in old, worn breaks. Below is positioned a transverse raised collar which gives way to a circular-sectioned oval loop. Siutated beneath is a rectangular sectioned base. The piece is now heavily abraded with a dark green patina. A similar example is recorde…

A fragment of a possible copper-alloy probable mirror of Roman date. The object is an irregular triangular shape with breaks along two sides and the original curved edge along the third suggesting that the original object was circular. There is a silvery patch on one face, which may be part of a reflective coating. Post-depositional corrosion has resulting in extensive pitting on both faces. A fragment from a copper-alloy object with polished surfaces, possibly from a Roman mirror. It is rectangular in form and roughly rectangular in section, with one complete edge that is concave, the remaining edges incomplete due to old breaks. Both faces have a polished silver/grey appearance, one smoother than the other, and both pitted in places due to post-depositional corrosion. The fragment measures 20.49mm in length, 20.09mm in width, 1.50mm in thickness, and 3.34g in weight. This is possibly a fragment from a Roman speculum mirror, although its form remains uncertain due to …

An incomplete cast lead mirror case of Roman date. Most of the front disc of the mirror survives, but it is missing any original back plate, glass, and any handle or means of attachment due to old breaks. The disc is circular in form with a central circular aperture measuring 12.70mm in maximum diameter. At top are the remains of two opposing terminal knops, while at the base are traces of an incomplete handle(?), its precise form uncertain due to the preservation of the object. Surrounding the central aperture the front face has double concentric rings or circles forming an inner bor…

A cast lead frame with fragments of glass around the edge of probable Post-medieval date. It is square in shape and rectangular in section and is possibly a mirror. It has been formed from a flat piece of lead which has been folded on each side to produce a frame to hold a square of glass. There does not appear to be any decoration on the back of the frame but there are two straight lines which could be decorative or due to post-depositional damage. It measures 67.34mm in length, 61.40mm in width, 11.45mm in thickness and weighs 235.03g.
