An oval nicolo intaglio depicting the Roman god Jupiter, set in a gold-coloured metal frame. It shows Jupiter, partly draped, seated right (as viewed) on a diphros (stool) holding a vertical sceptre in his right hand and a thunderbolt in his extended left hand. There is a groundline beneath the chair. It is cut with a flat top and sides sloping outwards towards the base. An intaglio of probably Modern date. It is made from pale green glass and is oval in shape, with an inscribed device. It is uncertain what the device is intended to depict. There may be two arms or wings with a head above and a horizontal bar below, but these do not suggest a classical figure. Intaglios such as this were popular items during the 18th and 19th centuries when they were utilised on seals and fobs. The object measures 11.11mm in length, 8.17mm in width, 1.58mm in thickness and weighs 0.24g.

It has traces of gilding on all surfaces. The intaglio itself is probably glass and has an opaque white colour. On the front face is depicted the heads of two figures, both appear to be male, with laureate heads and neo-Classical in style. The back f…
