An incomplete copper-alloy early medieval hasp in two sections. Overall the object is trapezoidal in shape with breaks across either end and roughly in the centre. The larger fragment has three sub-circular holes arranged transversely across its outer end, behind this a elongated semi-circular hole to either side and a small circular hole to either side behind this. The edges of two further circular holes can be seen within the break on each fragment. The smaller fragment has two small circular holes to either side. Surrounding these holes the outer faces of both fragments are decorate…

A fragment of a copper alloy hasp or box fitting. The object consists of a flat plate divided into a square and an irregularly-shaped section by a single raised transverse line across the outer face. The square section has a break across its outer end, suggesting that it would have been longer originally. The irregularly shaped section tapers to a point at its outer end and its outer face is decorated with incised grooves radiating outwards from the centre of the inner edge, creating a shell- or leaf-like effect. To the reverse of the terminal there is the remains of a single loop pro…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy hasp dating to the late Early-Medieval period, c. 900-1100. Only the lower portion and midsection of the hasp survive intact, with the upper portion broken away in old damage. In plan the object would originally have taken the form of a trapeze, narrowing towards its upper edge where a projecting rectangular strap-bar would have been present. The hasp is primarily decorated by means of openwork, with seven complete and three incomplete apertures of varying size visible in the plate. In addition to this, each side of the hasp's edge is decorated with fou…

An incomplete copper-alloy strap end most likely to be late early medieval or Viking Age in date. Of Gabor Thomas type E, 900-1100 AD in date. Both ends of the strap end are incomplete and it is worn with a reddish patina. The strap end is roughly rectangular in shape with two parallel projections from the more complete terminal end, it measures 30.02mm in length and 17.05mm in width. It is open work and moulded, there are five openwork holes and the edges are also shaped. Compare the 'hasp' from Middle Harling (Rogerson 1995, no. 99, fig. 46 and p. 66).

An incomplete copper-alloy openwork hasp, probably a box or casket fitting. It is incomplete due to an old break, but roughly rectangular in shape, flaring in width towards one terminal, measuring 34mm in surviving length and 16.7mm in width. The complete narrower end has a transverse rectangular perforation, and beyond this there are five oval holes, arranged in two diagonal rows of two and three. The longitudinal edges of the hasp have rounded protruding knops along them.
This incomplete hasp is identical to a slightly more complete openwork hasp found at Middle Harling, Norf…
