An incomplete copper alloy Roman zoomorphic folding knife handle, dating to AD 43-402. The handle takes the form of the lower part of a panther or lion, depicting the outwards curving chest of the front leg of the animal; the front leg terminates in a spread paw and is flanked by the two rear legs. The breaks occurs at the top of the chest. The back face has a C-shaped profile at the chest of the animal, having the convex part at the front; the legs have a median longitudinal deep groove which is flanked by two raised ridges. A virtually complete copper-alloy Roman zoomorphic folding knife handle; the blade itself is missing. It is broadly rectangular in plan and cross section depicting a stylised hound chasing a hare. Extending from the panel is the openwork scene, both animals running towards the hilt end of the handle. They are depicted in mid stride with the hound just grasping the tail of the hare. The hound has the beginings of a tail which may have extended a little further but has an old break.
