A fragment of Medieval to Post Medieval copper-alloy corpus Christi (body of Christ) from a crucifix dating to circa AD 1300-1600. The only extant piece now consists of a one perforated hand and small portion of the arm. The arm is circular-sectioned, leading into the hand which has a moulded thumb and fingers. In the centre of the palm is a circular perforation which would have enabled attachment to a cross. The extant pieces has traces of gilding. The complete or near complete form would have resembled WMID-B9BD91; NARC-668663; SOM-49D37A; SUSS-9FCC61. The dates offered in thos…

An incomplete copper alloy crucifix, probably of post-medieval date. The object consists of a cruciform back plate, c.2.1mm thick with rounded ends, its outer face moulded to represent a crude figure of christ. The tip of one of the arms of the cross is missing. The lower limb of the cross has been bent outwards in profile and there is small crack to one side of this bend. The form and condition of the object suggests a probable post-medieval date. A growing number of small post-medieval crucifix pendants, mounts and figurines have now been recorded with the PAS and they are likely…

A fragment of a copper alloy crucifix, probably of late medieval or post-medieval date. Only part of the cross-bar of the cross survives. This is formed from a narrow strip of metal with the upper body of moulded Christ in the centre of the outer face, his arms outstretched. There is a small section missing at the end of one arm. It is slightly curved in profile. The surface is corroded with a reddish-brown patina in places. A number of similar crucifixes have been recorded with the PAS, including LANCUM-2C6C77 from Lancashire, NMS-E12FA8 and NMS-DE9A57 from Norfolk and DENO-C6B7C2…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy crucifix of Medieval date. One flat, part of the upper arm and the central panel of the cross survive, the remainder now missing due to old breaks. The side arm is flat, rectangular in form and where it joins the central panel there is a curved upper edge running between the side arm and now incomplete upper arm of the cross. This suggests that presumably the cross would have originally had a central oval or circular panel from which the four arms would have extended. The front face of the object has extensive moulded and gilded decoration, with recesse…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy object, probably a crucifix of uncertain date. The top arm of the cross/crucifix is missing due to old breaks, as is one arm of one of the figures of Christ depicted on the cross, the remainder complete but worn. The cross has flat rectangular arms that terminate in trifoliate or lis shaped terminals. On both sides of the cross are figures of Christ depicted with arms outstretched to each terminal of the cross arms, head leaning to the left, loin cloth and at the base feet positioned one on top of the other. The figures are in high relief with flat back…
