Two quarter nobles found very close together. One is of Edward III, the other of Henry V. They surely represent part of a hoard or purse loss. Some wear as well as scuffing is evident and we might suppose a date of loss or depostion at some point in the mid-15th century. Catalogue Edward III, quarter noble, Treaty Series, North 1243, weight 1.44g (clipped), 1363-9 Henry V, quarter noble, Class C, North 1382, weight 1.72g, 1413-22

Circumstances of discovery: The 'near Cookley' hoard was discovered on the 19th of August 2018 by Mr [name redacted], metal detecting on a cultivated field with the landowner's permission. The initial finds were spread 'a few yards', but those recovered deeper appear to have been unfortunately dug out of an archaeological context. No pottery sherds were observed by the finder, and thus it seems probable that the coins were buried in an …

Two silver groats of Henry VII, both struck at London between 1507 and 1509. Both have little wear and were found within 15 feet of one another. These coins are uncommon as stray finds and the presence of two so close together surely indicates that they comprise part of a hoard lost or deposited in the area and subsequently dispersed by agricultural activity. The lack of wear suggests that loss or deposition took place not many years after the coins were struck, probably circa 1510-25. Catalogue Henry VII, groat, Tower, pheon initial mark (North 1747), 1507-9, weight 2.95g Henry…
