A complete Roman copper-alloy button and loop fastener dating to circa AD 50-150. It has a teardrop/petal shaped head with central, circular boss surrounded by a D-shaped in section raised cordon which is pointed at one end. A broadly rectangular-sectioned attachment loop projects outwards from the reverse of the head before turning at a right angle. It has an open broadly teardop/pear shaped aperture.
It is consistent with Wild's 1970 Class III. A smilar example is recorded on the database under SWYOR-7DD6A6.

A complete Roman copper-alloy button and loop fastener dating to circa AD 43-150. This fastener has a flat, undecorated rectangular-shaped head. A long shank projects outwards at a 90 degree angle, terminating in a squareshaped loop. The front face of the fastener is decorated with a central square, with oblique grooves radiating from each angle of the square to the border of the front face face. The central square panel and panels between the oblique lines would have been inlaid with enamel, none of which now survives.

A fragment of probable Roman copper-alloy button and loop fastener dating to circa AD 43-200. The extant piece consists of a spherical button with a flat top. Integrally cast, it has two divergent stubs of the loop projecting from the base, each terminating in ancient break.
A similar fragmentary example is recorded under NLM-AC9063.

A complete possible Roman button and loop fastener dating to circa AD 43-409. It consists of an anthropomorphic circular face and fishtail hook. The face is incised with almond shaped eyes, nose, and prominent wavy beard. An incomplete copper alloy button and loop fastener of Wild Class III, dating to the Roman period (AD 80 - AD 200).
The head of the fastener is teardrop shaped, with a central circular boss within a deep circumferential recess. The surrounding moulding is raised and drawn out into a soft point. The shank protrudes from the reverse of the head, and bends at 90 degrees before an old break after 14mm, originally it would have continued until terminating in a triangular attachment loop. The reverse is flat and undecorated.

A complete cast copper-alloy button and loop fastener corresponding to Wild's (1970) class VIb, dating c. 50-150 AD. The object is constructed with a rectangular flat undecorated head with a shank on the reverse which curves back on itself so as to be on the same plane as the head, before bifurcating into a triangular loop. The object is well preserved with an even dark green patina. Numerous similar objects are shown on the PAS database , e.g. DUR-858532 and SF-753D62

A complete copper-alloy late Iron Age to Roman toggle of the dumbbell type, dating to c.100 BC - AD 150. The head of the toggle consists of a cylindrical bar with a raised circular terminals at the outer ends; the terminals have a flattened end. An incomplete copper-alloy Roman button and loop fastener, dating to AD 100-200. It consists of a flat disc which has a loop projecting from the rear. The front face is decorated with a series of concentric grooves and raised lines; the centre of the disc has a circular recess. The loop is broken and extends upwards with a sub-rectangular cross-sectioned shaft. The front of the disc has traces of silvering.

A complete copper alloy Roman button and loop fastener. This fastener has a flat, undecorated rectangular-shaped head. A long shank projects outwards at a 90 degree angle, terminating in a triangular-shaped loop. The object has an overall green patina and is corroded on the surface.
It belongs to Wild's Type VI (1970, 141). Wild notes that undecorated fasteners with plain heads are 'typically north-British' and dates this type of buckle to the 2nd century AD (ibid.).
Length 33.02mm, width 22.33mm, thickness 7.49mm. Weight 11.9g.
