Lead alloy disk, probably part of a Medieval or Post Medieval cloth seal although there is no visible stamped design. It was found near SUSS-A2A403 and may be related. It is 19.1 by 18.1mm, 1.9mm thick and weighs 1.09 grams.

Post medieval lead alloy cloth seal. Fragment of a two or four part seal consisting of the central plug of lead, circular in section, withthe front disk and part of the back disc attached. The front is stamped with the portcullis badge of the Tudors, surrounded by a legend, mositly illegible reading: [...]E[...]M[...] . The portcullis was "the main design for alnage seals in the late Tudor period... and continued in use into the early seventeenth century" (Egan 1995:9). A flat circular lead seal matrix. The central design is of a cross pattee with a pellet in each quarter. The legend reads S' RO[...]TI : STEL (Seal of Robert Stel). There is no border between the central motif and the inscription. The edges of the matrix are broken in several places, with a mixture of old and new breaks. There is no loop or lug on the back to allow it to be lifted from the wax; there is a break at the top, however, which may mark the loss of a top loop in a form similar to SUSS-36EC53.
