Object type: TOY
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of a Post Medieval cast lead alloy possible toy gun, c.AD 1800-1900. This is likely to be one half of the cast grip from a miniature toy pistol, with moulded detail representing a handle textured with rhomboids, extending from a flat butt with a lug containing a rivet hole to the proximal edge of a plate with beaded border, which would be next to the lock of a flintlock gun. On the flat reverse, a single oval inset appears, where the decoration on the obverse rises up. The entire fragment is patinated. The antique form may be an unreliable guide to the date …

Object type: CLOTH SEAL
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of a lead-alloy cloth seal of probable post-medieval date. Originally this would have comprised two discs attached together via a lug projecting from the reverse of on and passing through a hole in the centre of the other. Now all that remains is the lug, squashed flat, with part of an unclear heraldic design on its outer end where it would have sat through the hole. The surface of the metal is hevaily corroded and the details are unclear. The design suggests a post-medieval date. Egan writes 'stamped lead seals were widely used in the European textile industry during t…
