Description:  A complete Roman gold earring dating to circa AD 200-300. The object consists of a square or box-shaped setting with straight edges. The setting recesses contains a dark green to black squarely cut gemstone. The surface of the gemstone is abraded. The gemstone is surrounded by a flat, thin border around which a frame of oblique ridges in relief, giving the impression of twisted wire, is set. The reverse of the setting is flat. A complete gold object of uncertain date, but possibly Iron Age or early Roman. It consists a length of thick gold wire (now rather twisted and distorted) of circular section with a knopped globular terminal at each end. Identification is uncertain, although it is likely to be an item of personal adornment such as a bracelet. XLI Series B included a view of the hoard, with pot and gold ring, in Ipswich Museum. The description ran: "Figure standing towards the front, very probably Mars or some other deity was intended, but the body has been gouged away (? deliberate defacement by a Christian owner). It is rectangular in shape and now distorted and bent with one end being folded over backwards and a longitudinal dent across the centre of the front face. Description: A complete but distorted gold Roman finger ring. The rectangular sectioned hoop is now bent and flares into a wider rectangular bezel. This has a central rectangular recess which is shallow and now empty. Presumably originally a gem of some kind would have been set within the recess.
