A gold posy ring with a shallow D-sectioned band which is undecorated externally, and inscribed internally In thy sight is my delight followed by a stamped maker's mark within a square, possibly JD. Gold posy ring. Thin D-sectioned band only very slightly distorted. Inscribed internally Honoured for thy virtue • followed by a worn makers mark, probably DA. Similar to an example in Oman (1974) plate 58, 1650 - 1700, and also examples in Grimwade (1982) from 1703 and 1705, although none are an exact likeness. 1625 - 18th century. External diameter 21mm. Internal diameter 18mm. The precious metal content of this item may therefore qualify it as treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996. Object type: PENDANT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Description: Gold pendant, of roughly circular shape, made from small pieces of gold sheet soldered together. The centre is formed of a square foil collet set set upon a base of spiral-coiled gold wire and set with a stone, probably a rock crystal. Around this were originally four similar rectangular collets set with what are probably garnets, forming a cross shape. One collet is missing entirely, another is missing its setting, but two adjacent collets survive complete. In the angles of these collets are elaborate fleurs-de-lis manufactured from strips of sheet gold set on edge,…

Description: Gold late medieval to early post-medieval finger-ring. It has a rectangular bezel with a raised collet containing a clear grey glass or gem setting, possibly rock crystal. The gem is table-cut and has lost three large chips along one side. The walls of the collet are bent around the gem to hold it in place. They rise from a slightly wider collar decorated with a longitudinal groove. Below this is a larger groove, and then below is the wider base of the bezel which is decorated with a series of transverse (vertical) grooves running around the edge to give a ribbed effect. …

Object type: COIN HOARD
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Two quarter nobles found very close together. One is of Edward III, the other of Henry V. They surely represent part of a hoard or purse loss. Some wear as well as scuffing is evident and we might suppose a date of loss or depostion at some point in the mid-15th century. Catalogue Edward III, quarter noble, Treaty Series, North 1243, weight 1.44g (clipped), 1363-9 Henry V, quarter noble, Class C, North 1382, weight 1.72g, 1413-22
