Description: A Roman gold ear-ring of rectangular form, seemingly complete, though distortion obscures most of the front face. The edges are lightly scalloped and the simple openwork decoration comprises a design based on small crescentic piercings. It is not possible to determine the form of the centre of the plate. The long tapered hook, also distorted, is fastened to the centre of a cruciform brace which is soldered to the back of the main plate. A gold Portugese half Moeda with a value of 2000 Reis, of King John V (Ioannes) of Portugal 1706-50. One Moeda or Moedore meaning 'Port. moeda da ouro' or 'money of gold,' is normally worth 4000 reis, this type of coin is also sometimes called a crusado or cruzado because of the cross on the reverse, 1 crusado is worth 400 reis so our half moidore which is worth 2000 reis is 5 crusados. Gold noble,appears to be standard type A (North 1975, p30), worn and damaged around the edges, probably Edward III post treaty period, 1369-77 or Edward IV, first reign heavy coinage 1461-1465. Its weight is equivalent to 105.6 grains, the nobles from Edward IV heavy coinage were 108 grains and this is the closest weight to our example. (North, 1975, 65, no 1527).

An Anglo-Saxon gold and garnet setting, originally circular but now heavily damaged, with most cells empty; plus a separate garnet and foil. A now distorted quatrefoil int he centre preserves remains of a white inlay (scientific examination (see below) suggested that this is probably shell). The quatrefoil is encircled by four half-round, now empty cloisons. From these, stepped cells radiate outwards to the edge of the setting. Four of them still preserve their garnets. Gold finger ring possibly of medieval or post medieval date. Now bent measuring 22mm by 18mm externally and 18.5mm by 14.9mm internally. As this finger ring is so plain with no diagnostic features it is very difficult to date. Consequently, due to the undiagnostic nature of the find, it can not be securely dated to pre-1706 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure act 1996.

Arabic gold dinar identified by Luke Treadwell. The coin is an Almohad half dinar of Abu Ya'qub Yusuf I (AH 558-80/AD 1163-84), struck in North Africa (the mint is not named) between 1168 and 1184. Abu Ya'qub Yusuf has the title 'amir al-mu'minin' on this coin, which dates it after AH 563/AD 1168. This type is described in Stephen Album's 'A Checklist of Islamic Coins' (no. 483) as 'relatively common', but the find has considerable historical interest of course. A gold finger ring which has been identified as 19th century by Judy Rudoe of the British Museum and therefore does not qualify as a treasure find. The finger ring is complete apart from some damage and bending of one side of the hoop. It consists of a hoop with a plated central longitudinal band and a knot of the same two bands twisted around each other. Its 17.61mm and 16.19mm in external size and 14.92mm by 14.05mm internally.

Description: A gold probable finger ring now distorted, consisting of a slender twisted ribbon of gold with tiny flat-backed snake heads in low relief at the terminals. The rendering of the snake heads is reduced to a pattern of swellings, curves and lines.
