An ornamental link from a necklace, bracelet or earring? Made of rectangular section gold wire, a teardrop shape outline contains four pieces forming curvilinear shapes and has a small loop (both showing signs of wear) at each end. Length 18 mm, wires 0.8 by 0.3mm. The craftsmanship is poor for precious metal work. Reported under the Treasure Act 1996. Catherine Johns (British Museum) adds in her report: "A single decorative gold necklace link formed out of square-sectioned wire, which would have formed a spacer between glass or hardstone beads. Date: 1st to mid 3rd century AD". X-ray…

A gold finger-ring, 18mm in external diameter and 15mm in internal diameter. The hoop has a circular cross-section and is likely to have been originally formed of beaded wire, this is still visible on the inside edge, but not on the outside edge due to wear. There are two gold globules on either shoulder, the setting is plain and oval in shape, it is 5mm in length, 3.5mm in width and 3.5mm in depth. The setting still contains some kind of probably organic material- perhaps coral. There was a similar gold finger-ring found as part of the Thetford treasure which is late fourth or …

Description: A gold probable finger ring now distorted, consisting of a slender twisted ribbon of gold with tiny flat-backed snake heads in low relief at the terminals. The rendering of the snake heads is reduced to a pattern of swellings, curves and lines. Discussion: This finger ring is probably of Catherine John's type Bii (Johns, 1997, 36, fig 9), being of penannular form with two confronted snakes head terminals. It is similar in style to over thirty examples from the Snettisham hoard. However, these are all in silver, indeed no published example in gold of type Bii could b…
