Two fragments of an incomplete gilded copper alloy mount of probable medieval or post-medieval date. It consists of an elongated rectangular strip, becoming thinner towards the complete end, which is bent at a right-angle (whether deliberately or not is not clear), its tip detached and found separately. The detatched tip has a rounded outer end and is pierced with a small circular hole. The outer surface is gilded, while the reverse is more roughly finished. There is a straight break across the other end within which the inner edge of a further circular attachment hole is visible.

Description: A medieval gold mount. The mount is octagonal in shape and has a central setting, now distorted, which contains a reddish stone, probably a garnet, the upper surface of which is flat and polished. Surrounding this central setting there is a beaded border. On the reverse are two small piercings, presumably the means of attaching this mount to another component, perhaps the hoop of a finger ring or the frame of a brooch.
