A rim sherd of a wheel-thrown ceramic Black Burnished Ware (Type BB2) jar or bowl of Roman date, circa AD120 - 250. The fabric is dark blackish-grey in colour with a hard and gritty texture and black burnished outer surface. Abundant inclusions of mica are present giving a speckled appearance within the fabric. The fragment has a thick beaded rim. The fragment is 113.2mm long, 41.39mm wide, Rim 14.27mm thick, body 5.51mm thick, and weighs 52.7g. A fragment of a Roman Mortaria made from Oxford colour coated ware , dating to the period AD 50- 410. The fragment is broadly triangular in shape and includes part of the foot ring, a low pedestal-like ring formed on the base of a vessel to enable it to stand more securely. The fabric is a sandy orange colour on either side with the original grey colour still clearly visible in the centre of the cross-section. A small base and body sherd of Roman wheel thrown greyware ceramic vessel dating c.AD 100-300. The sherd is a small irregular body and base sherd with clear striations indicating a wheel thrown vessel. The fabric is hard with numerous mica specks throughout the sherd. Three wheel-thrown ceramic sherds of probable Oxfordshire colour-coated ware (two body sherds, one rim sherd), dating c. 100-400 AD. All demonstrate internal off-white fabrics, over which a greyish black slip that in places transitions to a blackish brown colour has been applied. Rilling marks are visible on the internal faces, while the outer surfaces have a 'pimpled' appearance. Combined weight; 25.9g.
