A fragment of a copper-alloy Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) strap end of Thomas Class E, Type 1 dating to the period c. AD 1000 - 1100. It would have comprised of an open-work design, but all that remains is the attachment end. The attachment plate retains three entrally positioned rivet holes. The openwork tongue terminates in an old break and has two semi-circular holes. A more complete example can be found on PAS see SOM-F33A5F. Cf. Thomas, G, 2004, p. 3, no. 24. An incomplete copper-alloy strap end of Medieval date. It is a composite strap-end with a sheet spacer occupying the whole width, broadly rectangular in shape tapering in to terminate with a fleur de lis knop. One part of the plate is missing, the other is broken at the knop. The remaining plate has a hole for a now missing rivet a tthe terminal.
