Cast or struck Medieval to Post-Medieval lead token of the Boy Bishop variety. Groat sized with St. Nicholas on the reverse. Boy Bishop tokens were produced from the 1480s to probably up to 1534, on St Nicholas Day and are thought by some to have been carried by sea-farers. They appear to be specific to East Anglia (Bailey 2000, Finds Identified page 6). The diameter is 23mm and the weight is 2.71g.

A lead fragment of an object which is likely to be related to 18th century commorative medals, see SWYOR-2ECA62, possibly associated with Admiral Vernon. The fragment consists of the lower third of a circular flat disc with a shaft projecting from the centre of the lower edge of this. The disc fragment measures 33mm in surviving width and c20mm in height. On one face, presumably the front face, there is the moulded torso of a man with one arm bent holding a sword at the ready, it appears to be a man in the mist of a sword fight. A complete lead token of circa 17th century date, the 17th century saw an upsurge in the use of lead or lead/tin tokens, this example is similar in style to an example from Exeter, which has a castle embossed on the obverse (Read, 1995, 139, no 872). A Suffolk example also of a similar style has been found in Bury St Edmunds it has a man on horseback on the obverse and lettering on the reverse, the letter 'W' can be seen and there are indistinct letters along one edge. No exact parallel could be found with a church on the obverse.

Lead boy Bishop penny size token, late 15th to early 16th century in date. Rigold Series I,G variant (no colon after ‘AVE’). Casting jet at 8 o’clock (obv.) (= between 5 and 6 o’clock rev.) There is also a casting flow fault (after obv. ‘NICHOLAVS’; enveloping rev. :REX) suggesting that the metal was only just above melting pint when it was poured or that the mould was cold. Identified by Chris Mycock of Moyses Hall Museum.
