A worn copper-alloy Post-Medieval farthing trader's token dating to 1667, issued for the City of Great Yarmouth. Williamson 284-285. Obverse: Arms of Yarmouth borough (per pale three demi-lions passant gardant, conjoined in pale with three demi-herrings, GREAT YARMOUTH 1667 Reverse: Arms of Yarmouth borough as above, FOR THE VSE OF THE POOR/POORE Farthing trade tokens were first issued in 1648 as a response to the lack of small change, with halfpenny examples following in 1656. They were finally suppressed in 1674 under Royal Authority.
