Silver denarius of Carausius (AD 286-93) (Reece Period 14), Unattributed Mint. (3.22g) Obv. IMP CARAVSIVS P F AVG; Laureate, draped and cuirassed right Rev. FELICITA AV; Felicitas standing left, holding branch (downwards) and cornucopiae. This is the third known specimen of this type in Sam Moorhead's corpus for a new RIC volume on Carausius and Allectus, the other two coins (one in the Ashmolean; the other Spink 8006, 27 3 2008, lot 1152) sharing the same dies as this coin. A pierced silver denarius of Carausius dating to the period AD 286-293 (Reece period 14), VIRT CARAVSI AVG reverse type depicting a lion facing left holding thunderbolt. Mint of London. Mintmark: -//RSR; commonly attributed to London, but to be studied further. RIC V, pt 2 - The coin has been pierced, a circular perforation which has been drilled through the reverse is located at 6 o clock on the obverse and 12 o clock on the reverse.
