Record ID: NMS-759144
Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Unidentified and probably incomplete copper-alloy object of unknown date. It consists of a rectangular element measuring 8.0 x 5.8 x 2.6mm, which is longitudinally convex (thinner at the narrow ends) and moulded with relief decoration on one face and flat on the reverse. An integral, straight, oval-cross-sectioned rod projects 8.1mm from the centre of one of the long edges. It projects at ninety degrees to that edge but on a plane that deviates from that of the rectangle by about ten degrees towards the flat face. It appears to terminate in a worn break. The image depicted by the…

Object type: PENANNULAR RING
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy penannular ring of uncertain date. The hoop is sub-triangular in cross-section, having a wider flat internal face and two equally narrower and concave external faces. The terminals are fairly rounded by wear. There is no trace of the gold coating that is normal in Middle to Late Bronze Age rings. The metal is patinated pale green, with an overlying layer of pale yellowish green. Similarly shaped rings in copper-alloy on this database, also of uncertain date, include BUC-251D11 and SF-2A1951. Gold or gold-covered Bronze Age examples include SUR-EFB639 and SUSS-5EA230. …

Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Small fragment of an unidentified object of uncertain but probably Roman to early-medieval date, made of sheet copper-alloy and decorated on one face with stamped or punched ring-and-dot motifs. It is roughly trapezoidal, with two long tapering edges, a straight edge joining these at the narrow end and an irregularly-shaped edge, which is more clearly an old break, at the wide end. It has become slightly bent along a transverse line near the middle, and a strip of surface metal has been lost along that line on both faces. The ring-and-dots seem to be randomly placed, although th…

Record ID: SF-014378
Object type: NEEDLE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete rod-like object, perhaps a needle or punch, of uncertain date. It is circular in cross-section with a rounded outer end, tapering to a point at the other end. The surface is heavily corroded and it is bent slightly in the centre. Due to its simple and undiagnotic form only a broad Bronze Age to post-medieval date range can be suggested. Length: 53.42mm, diameter: 3.50mm, weight: 2.44g

Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Two fragments of copper-alloy metalworking debris of uncertain date. Both are irregular shapes with heavily pitted and corroded surfaces. Undiagnostic debris such as this can only be assigned a very broad Bronze Age to post-medieval date range. Total weight: 36.38g

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete unidentified object of an uncertain date. It consists of a now deformed flat cast strip with straight edges. It gently flares outwards to its thickest width in the centre. Each terminal is rolled over. One exhibits significant iron staining. One face of the strip is decorated each of which are rolled over and contain some iron.one side of the strip has a randomly cut series of marks. The function and date of the object is uncertain. A complete copper-alloy awl of uncertain Bronze Age to Post-medieval date. It is rectangular in cross-section tapering to a point at either end. Marks on all surfaces suggest that it was hammered into shape. Simple tools such as this are difficult to date precisely as they were in use for a long period with apparently little change in form. A piece of undiagnostic silver casting waste, dating from an unknown period. It is broadly rectangular in plain with round edges. Due to the undiagnostic nature of the find, it cannot be securely dated as being over 300 years old and as such would appear to fall outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.
