A sherd of an Iron Age to early medieval shelly ware vessel. The sherd comes from the body of the vessel. Both faces and margins are an oxidised patchy red and brown with a reduced brown core. The fabric is hard and coarse and is tempered with plentiful white shelly fragments (<5mm), occasional fine quartz sand and mica, and there are many voids where fragments have been lost. An incomplete cast copper-alloy object, possibly a mount from a vessel or similar item. It is oval in form, tapering to a slight point at the base, and with a D-shaped cross-section. At the top the object narrows to a rectangular(?) neck that terminates in old breaks and is also D-shaped in section with flat back and faceted from face. At the centre of the body is a circular rivet hole containing a relatively large cylindrial rivet with flattened heads. The back face of the object is flat, and has a circular concave moulding surrounding the rivet hole. It measures 41.61mm in length, 3…

An incomplete copper-alloy object, probably a fragment from the handle or leg of a vessel. It is roughly rectangular in form, trapezoidal in cross-section, flaring at one end to a flattened and incomplete terminal, and at the other to old breaks surrounding a hollow/concave back(?) face that is perhaps a casting flaw. The entire object has a worn dark green/brown patina and measures 75.33mm in length, 28.39mm in width, 15.25mm in thickness, and 111.39g in weight. This is probably a fragment from a copper-alloy vessel, perhaps a handle or leg from a cooking vessel. Its precise date …

A fragment, possibly a rim sherd, from a copper-alloy vessel of uncertain date. It is curved in form, terminating at both ends in old breaks, and triangular in section, expanding towards the inner edge where it terminates in old breaks. One face (exterior?) has decoration comprising a single groove that follows the outer edge of the rim. This fragment measures 50.57mm in width, 7.80mm in length, 3.12mm in thickness, and 7.09g in weight. This is an incomplete fragment from a copper-alloy vessel of uncertain form. It is potentially from the rim of a vessel, although might as easily b…

A very abraded body sherd from a handmade pottery vessel with dark grey to black (burnt?) fabric that has organic inclusions and is missing its exterior surface due to post-depositional damage. It measures 33.47mm in length, 42.22mm in width, 7.91mm in thickness, and 9.91g in weight. This sherd is of uncertain date, either belonging in the Prehistoric period (Bronze to Iron Ages, c.2550-1 BC) or Early Anglo-Saxon period (c.5th-7th centuries AD).

A cast lead vessel mend of Roman or later date. It has two irregularly flattened surfaces, separated by a narrow waist within which are the remains of an oxidised ceramic vessel wall. The fabric of the pottery is orange in colour with some small red/pink clay pellets. The entire object measures 31.72mm in length, 25.00mm in width, 10.79mm in thickness, and 22.29g in weight. It is plausible that this object may date as early as the Roman period, although what survives of the pottery vessel is no-longer closely identifiable to a distinctive ceramic type. A later date cannot be ruled …
