An incomplete circular lead object, probably a weight or similar object. It is flat, circular in form and missing part of one side due to old breaks. Both faces of the object have an impression or imprint of a coin of George III, probably a penny as Seaby no. 3780. One face carries a laureate bust left with the legend GEORGIVS III D G[], all in reverse/retrograde due to the coin being impressed into the lead. This is a small lead spindle whorl that may date to any point from the Roman period onwards, although a later date is perhaps more likely given its form and findspot.

Biggs and Withers (2000, p.34-6) suggest that shield-shaped lead weights were introduced in the second half of the 14th century AD and remained in use as late as the 17th, 18th and even 19th centuries.
