A sherd from the body of an early Bronze Age vessel, dating to the period c.2350-c.1200 BC. Hard, coarse fabric containing plentiful poorly sorted quartz pieces (<2mm). An incomplete cast copper-alloy handle from a medieval cooking vessel, most probably a posnet or skillet dated from the later medieval to the early post-medieval period (c. 1400-1600 AD). The handle comprises a flat bar that widens towards the centre and narrows towards the end where it rounds off and is angled slightly downwards. The handle has broken at the widest point of the bar. The foot projects at a shallow angle below the main bar of the handle and narrows to a rounded terminus. Across the top surface of the handle, there is a line of ring-dot motifs.

A sherd from the rim of a Roman ceramic Samian ware vessel. The sherd comes from the rim of a deep-sided vessel, probably a bowl, but is too small to estimate the original diameter. The fabric is hard and fine, red-orange with a glossy red-orange slip. Probably of central Gaulish Les Martres-de-Veyre production (LMV SA), which was mostly exported to Britain in the early 2nd century AD.

5 x fragments of medieval to post-medieval copper-alloy cooking vessels. Including three rim sherds and two leg sherds.
One leg is an example of Butler et al's (2009) Type C, which is of 16th to 17th century date, while the others are too worn and fragmentary to assign anything other than a general medieval to post-medieval date range.

A fragment of a leg from a copper-alloy cooking vessel of probable post-medieval date. Only a section of the upper leg survives. This is roughly triangular in cross-section with a raised rib running longitudinally down the centre of the outer face. It is very irregular in shape suggesting that it may have been poorly cast during manufacture rather than just damaged from use.
This leg is probably an example of Butler et al's (2009, 4 & fig.4) Type A, a simple form which seems to have had a long chronology dating from the medieval period to at least the…

An incomplete Roman copper-alloy vessel mount/eschutcheon dating to circa AD 43-410. Now heavily abraded and incomplete it is broadly teardrop-shaped terminating in an old break. A now incomplete loop extends from the apex attached to a rectangular-sectioned bar on the reverse. The front face is now rendered convex but this is likely due to post depositional damage.
The object is consistent with a number of similar mounts recorded on the database including: BERK-873B70, DUR-838BB5; SF-362F95 and GLO-166FE4

A sherd from the body of a Roman colour-coated ware vessel. Probably Oxfordshire red/brown-slipped ware. Hard, fine-textured fabric with poorly sorted occasion reddish iron ore and fine quartz sand. It appears to have a slightly laminar fracture, although the edges are heavily abraded. It has an orange core, slightly darker inner surface and traces of dark brown slip on the outer face. There is a line of regularly spaced rectangular indendations close to one edge.
Production of this pottery commences by c. AD 240 and continues until end of 4th cent. Without details of form i…

An incomplete probable Roman copper-alloy escutcheon from a vessel dating to circa AD 43-410. The extant piece consists of a hooked end with a convex outer face and concave innter face. From here is rectangular-sectioned bar which tapers inwards terminating in a rounded foot with straight edges. No decoration survives. The hooked end appears to terminate in an ancient break but is not clear precisely how this functioned.
The fragmentary nature of this object makes in hard to date or identify, although it may have formed one of a set of hooked escutcheons from a hanging bowl…
