An incomplete probable Post Medieval pair of copper-alloy sugar tongs dating to circa AD 1600-1900. It is comprised of the terminal and arm of one of pair. It consists of a short stem with faceted surfaces that is trapezoidal in section and terminates in an old break. The main 'bowl' of the object is flared where it joins the stem and rounded at the other end. Crossover segment of a pair of articulated tongs, snuffers or nutcrackers, made from copper alloy and of medieval date. This implement was formed from two cast paired elements. each consisting of a handle-rod 6mm in diameter (both now snapped off) a decorative flattened area at which the two were riveted together and pivoted for use like a pair of scissors, and terminating in the operative part of the instrument, each arm of which is shaped like a small animal's head.
