Complete Post Medieval cast lead alloy handle for a tobacco box, c.AD 1600-1790. The handle is broadly oval in plan and irregular in profile. The central handle is broadly decorated as a flower. It has a central raised boss, which expands into a series of eight radiating lentoid shaped petals. The neck below the handle becomes narrow before expanding outwards in a slanting platform with the remains of a rivet protruding from underneath. A complete lead post-medieval tobacco jar lid. The outer face of the lid is octofoil in shape with a prominant central pellet surrounded by two concentric grooves and a circle of eight lobes. To the reverse is an integral rivet with a two disc-shaped lugs around it, the outer smaller in size. The surface of the metal is hevaily corroded and it is bent out of shape.

A complete cast lead alloy tobacco box lid handle of post medieval date ( AD 1600-1850 ). The handle is oval in plan with a central raised boss and has no decoration. The neck below the handle becomes narrow before expanding outwards in a slanting platform with a rivet protruding from underneath. The artefact is in good condition. Similar examples are illustrated in G Bailey's 'Detector Finds', number 4 page 62, which he dates to the middle of the 17th century and states that the lead boxes were used to keep moist tobacco inside. It is circular shaped with a ring of small pellets around the edge of the outer face and raised flower decoration in the centre consisting of a central pellets surrounded by seven petals. A complete lead lpost-medieval tobacco jar lid. It is roughly lozenge shaped with a raised flower decoration on the outer face consisting of a central pellets surrounded by eight petals. To the reverse an integral rivet extends culminating in two roughly circular disks pressed together. Traces of iron corrosion can be seen around this rivet. Length: 35.48, width: 30.38mm, thickness: 30.32mm, weight: 9.10g
