The knop has a single narrow collar and is three-dimensional in form.  The interior bar is flat and has an attachment hole in the centre of the base, the hole is torn. It is composed of a sub-oval plate with a break at its outer end, a narrow rectangular section positioned transversely across its lower end and a long strip projecting from the centre of the lower edge of this latter section, curving round towards the reverse in a sinuous S-shape. A complete copper-alloy strap fitting of uncertain date. The object is a horizontally flattened, sub-oval loop shape with one side slightly straighter than the other. It has a pointed oval cross-section. There are areas of greater wear on each longer side, perhaps where a strap was attached originally, suggesting that it may be a section of horse gear. The surface of the metal is heavily worn and corroded. Without further diagnostic details the object is difficult to date precisely as loops such as these were used as strap and harness fittings from the Iron Age onwards.

It comprises an incomplete bar mount and quatrefoil loop. One of the lobes is squared with a recessed bar across its outer end where it is attached to an in situ simple copper-alloy strap mount. Thias is formed of sheet metal and is wrapped around the bar with a rivet hole at either end.  See Egan and Pritchard (1991, 221, fig.138, no.1189) for comparison. A complete Medieval copper-alloy strap fitting dating to circa AD 1270-1350. It is a strap loop with integrally cast rivet. The loop is D-shaped with a plan-convex frame. The bar is rectangular sectioned and has a circular sectioned rivet projecting from it. Similar examples are depicted in Read 2016: pg 26 214-215. Length: 19.9mm; Width: 19.5mm; Thickness: 3.9mm; Weight: 1.90g

A Medieval copper-alloy strap fitting dating to circa AD 1350-1500. . It is formed of a thin sheet of rectangular copper alloy folded in the centre. At the opposite end are two rivet holes missing their rivets which would have joined the plates together. The plate is decorated on one side with two longitudinal grooves positioned either side of the rivet hole edges. After here are a series of incised transverse grooves which run into an old break. The other side is plain. Length: 26mm; Width 7.20mm; Thickness: 1.3mm; Weight: 2.48g.

A complete Medieval copper-alloy strap slide loop dating to circa AD 1350-1400. The loop is D-shaped with a knop projecting from one edge of the frame. The frame is plano-convex in section and plain. Similar examples are illustrated in Read 2016: nos 216-225. Length: 26.1mm; Width 15.8mm; Thickness: 3.1mm; Weight: 2.85g.

An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy swivel strap fitting dating to circa AD 1066-1300. The extant piece consists of two now broken opposed loops. One loop is socketed whilst the other carries a circular-sectioned bar enabling the two to be joined. The loops are now survived by pointed stubs.  A similar example is recorded in Griffiths et al 2006: pg 182, pl 35, no 2325 where it is noted that it was recovered from a Norman period contexct and they would likely habve been used as leashes to to restrain pets or farm animals but may also have been used to suspend cooking vessels.&nbs…

A complete Post Medieval strap fitting dating to circa AD 1550-1650. It is S-shaped in plan with rounded faces.  The object is zoomorphic, containing moulded animal-head terminals at either end, incised grooves running down the head and neck possibly indicate the beast is a sea-horse. Where the bodies meet in the centre of the object is a moulded design consisting of two opposed longitudinal grooves flanked by two horizontal oblique grooves.  The object is consistent with an example in Read 2008: pg 230. .Read notes it would have been affixed to a sword belt. …
