An incomplete iron Seax or long knife dating to the Early Medieval period, c. 450-600 AD. The object is single edged, with a triangular-sectioned blade that thickens at its upper edge and curves down towards its point, giving it a humped appearance. The tang is triangular in form and follows the centre line of the blade, though the presumably organic handle is now missing. Preserved in fair condition with the original surface now mostly obscured by corrosion products, the seax measures c. 345mm long, 17.50mm thick at the midpoint of the tang, 42.49mm thick at the midpoint of the blade…
