A copper-alloy fragment of a Medieval to Post Medieval pair of scissors, dating to AD 1400- 1600. It consists of the central portion which has two eccentrically-set finger loops, now incomplete and a raised collar at their base. The front face of the bar has a central hole, which houses a fragment of a pin; the hole is surrounded by two concentric grooves and it is flanked by the letters A - S. The back face of the bar has a central recess to fit into an unclear support. Cf SUSS-4672E3, IOW-6A40EE, IOW-783BA2. Length: 38.73 mm Width of the central portion: 7.63 mm

Cast copper alloy scissor handle consisting of one finger loop and part of the arm still attached. The loop is oval in plan and lozenge-shaped in section, and the arm is rectangular in plan and square in section. The arm is incised with oblique lines, creating a star formation, and then notches are filed down to create a square section at a 45 degree angle from the original square section of the arm. Other examples of scissor handles with similar decoration can be seen on the database, IOW-AB29C5, CAM-7F2D96, and NMS-52C987, which are dated to c.1350-1450, and example…
