A cast copper-alloy terminal from a necklace clasp of Roman date. It comprises a body that is rectangular in form and section and decorated on all long faces with multiple transverse wavy lines. At each end the object tapers slightly before expanding to a flattened loop. The loops are sub-oval in form and set at ninety degrees to one another enabling attachment of the now missing corresponding hooked terminal of the necklace. Each terminal has a large central circular aperture, one of which has extensive use-wear at its outer edge indicative of where the clasp and hook pieces would ha…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy object, possibly a necklace or armlet or probable Roman to Early-Medieval date. The object terminates at both ends in old breaks, and has suffered from post-depositional damage and corrosion. The body of the object is formed from a tapering rod or hoop that is circular in cross-section and has been bent almost back against itself due to post-depositional damage, narrowing slightly at one end. At the opposite end the hoop expands to a flattened and flaring rectangular terminal(?) that is rectangular in section, its precise form uncertain due to old break…

It is spherical in form, although it is flattened on one side and the is broken towards the middle, most likely due to post-depositional damage. A necklace of twisted copper-alloy. Although the necklace is now coiled round its original length may have been about 191mm. The copper-alloy rod was flat and rectangular-shaped in cross-section before it was twisted. This necklace may be complete as one end is oval-shaped and may originally have been a loop and the other end is flat and may have passed through the loop. There is a similar necklace from the Roman small town of Wanborough, Wiltshire (Anderson, Wacher, Fitzpatrick, 2001, p99, fig, 39, No, 138), which is dated to 260 AD.
