An incomplete Roman copper-alloy nail cleaner dating to circa AD 43-410. The piece is virtually complete save for missing the terminal, which was likely bifurcated. The blade is flat and lentoid-shaed. The handle is circular-sectioned and consists of five moulded collars. At the apex is a flat discoidal suspension loop.

An incomplete Roman copper-alloy nail cleaner dating to circa AD 200-400. The nail cleaner has a broken loop at the apex. Beneath is a narrow neck. It has flared shoulders before narrowing into the balde, which tapers into an old break before the tip. One face of the balde is decorated with a central longitudinal incised groove.
It is consistent with Crummy's Class 2b category dating to the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD (1983: 58).

The blade is a flattened leaf-shaped with a longitudinal groove runnind down the centre of one face and its lower tip is missing. At the upper end there is a moulded handle culminating in a flat circular suspension loop. The handle moulding consists of two writhen knops separated by narrow collar in the centre and to either side. The surface of the metal is heavily corroded and it has been slightly bent out of shape in profile.

The handle is flattened in the same plane as the blade, its sides curve inwards and there are an additional two notches removed from each side creating a zigzag effect. At the upper end there is a moulded handle culminating in a broken suspension loop set at a right-angle to the blade; it is most likely that the loop was originally circular. The handle moulding consists of three raised collars. The blade is slightly bent at the tip. The surfaces are heavily worn.

A longitudinal groove runs down the centre of the front face. At the upper end there is a moulded handle culminating in a circular suspension loop set parallel to the blade. The handle moulding consists of three raised collars followed by a waisted central section and a lower collar. The blade is slightly bent in different points. The object is in good condition.

A copper-alloy Roman straight-sided nail cleaner with varying decoration, dating to AD 43-200. It consists of a sub-rectangular bar, which flares in a sub-rectangular tab on one end has a forked terminal on the opposite end. The latter has a shallow groove at the fork and the the tab has a circular perforation. The front face of the object has a decoration consisting of a series of oblique grooves. The nail cleaner is bent downwards at 40°.

An incomplete copper-alloy Roman nail cleaner, dating to AD 100-300. It consists of a roughly oval plate, which has an elongated and tapering end; the opposite end has a transverse break. The tapering end has a longitudinal median groove running for 8.03 mm to the broken tip. The straight edge has a transverse groove on the back face. The front face of the upper part of the cleaner has four engraved annulets arranged in a cross.

An incomplete copper alloy Roman nail cleaner. The blade is a flattened leaf-shaped culminating at its lower end in a worn point. The upper end culminates simply in a circular suspension loop set at a right-angle to the blade. The surface of the metal is heavily corroded and the tip has been bent out of shape in profile.
This is an example of a simple form of Crummy's (1983, 58) Type 2b, which she suggests that this is a developed form that was in use from the mid- to late 1st century AD, probably continuing into the 2nd century AD.

It consists of a leaf-shaped blade, which has a curved and wider upper section and tapers towards the broken tip. Both faces of the blade bear a longitudinal median groove. On the upper edge of the blade there is an integral square neck decorated back and front with transverse raised ridges, now worn. The outer edge of the neck expands in an incomplete circular loop, which is set parallel to the blade's wide faces.
