An incomplete Medieval cast copper alloy dagger pommel, c.AD 1100-1400. The object is roughly spherical with a square perforation on one side, leading to a circular perforation on the other. It is likely the tang would have passed through the square perforation and the tip protruded from the circular perforation, with a cap covering it. The object has a light green patina with traces of light brown corrosion.

An incomplete Medieval to Post Medieval dagger dating to circa AD 1300-1500. The extant piece consists of the quillion/sword guard. It is of an elongated ovate shape with a curved profile and raised rim to the lower aspect. A rectangular aperture is present at the centre, through which the blade would have slotted into the grip. The surfaces appear undecorated. Faint traces of white metal coating survive on the exterior face. Similar examples are recorded on the PAS database including YORYM-E8D9F2; WMID-BBEC88, SF-BDCB85, YORYM-11276E and SUSS-A6ADE2.

A copper-alloy Medieval dagger guard or quillon dating to AD 1200-1450. It consists of a curved sub-rectangular bar, which ends in two faceted knobs. The centre of the bar slightly expands and bears a rectangular hole to accommodate the missing blade. The inner walls of the hole are angled, determining a wider aperture on the concave side of the guard. Where the arms meet the central expansion there are two shallow transverse steps on each side of the quillon. Cf WILT-8DA07D. A very similar example NLM-45CF28 has been dated to the Post Medieval Period (AD 1500-1650). Length: 68.…

The tang itself is sub-rectangular in section, while the blade is broadly lenticular- with the upper sections of two convergent ribs visible on both sides. The pommel is hollow (though now clogged with the corroded remnants of the iron dagger tank), its sloping upper surface divided into seven segments by the presence of seven grooves that radiate from the small circular aperture on the upper face of the pommel. An incomplete Medieval copper alloy dagger pommel, dating AD1300-1600. The pommel has three arms with trefoils at the end, one of which has broken away. One arm has traces of a rectangular slit with iron inside, staining of which continues beneath the object suggesting that an iron tang once fitted into it. The metal is a mid-dark green colour with orange-brown staining around the iron component. A more complete example is recorded on the PAS database (KENT-1062C7) and a similar example but with four arms has also been recorded (BH-314918). The size would indicate that it was the p…

Medieval (14th 15th centuries) dagger quillon: The copper alloy quillion has a central rectangular frame whose perforation has rounded corners. Protruding from each narrow edge, and off-set, is oval sectioned arm which is down turned at the terminal. Each terminal is slightly expanded. The surface of the quillion is abraded and has traces of a shiny dark green patina. It measures 69.7mm long, 19.39mm tall, 12.63mm thick and weighs 20.9g. The quillion probably dates to the late Medieval period, probably the 14th 15th centuries.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy object, perhaps a guard from a medieval or early post-medieval dagger. It is missing both ends due to old breaks, so its precise original form is uncertain. It is flat, D-shaped in section and has a curved profile. At the centre of the curve is a flattened oval panel with a central oval aperture, decorated on the front with diagonal notches to either side. To each side of the central panel the object tapers as it curves downwards and has double transverse rectangular panels with central grooves, each separated by a narrow neck. Dagger quillon. The arms are oval in cross-section, taper to rounded points, and are straight but project at a slight angle towards the side where the blade would have projected. The oval perforation (20 mm x 7 mm ) for the tang is flanked by grooves for the shoulders of the blade. Length 114 mm, maximum width 13 mm, thickness 6 mm. Medieval dagger quillon form is based closely on contemporary sword quillon form. A similar, but larger, sword quillon can be seen in the London Museum Medieval Catalogue, Plate II No. 1, Fig. 5 No. 1, description on p.33 (B306). Probably dates to the 14th…

There is a raised and moulded band decorated with short transverse incised lines round the circumference at what was once the widest point.
