An incomplete, worn and corroded tin-alloy farthing with a central copper-alloy plug struck for Charles II, dating c. 1684-1685. Spink 3395. The coin has suffered considerable edge losses between c. 10 o'clock and 12 o'clock on its obverse face. Tin farthings were first issued in 1684 to help boost the tin industry, with the copper alloy plug intending to discourage forgery but it failed in its purpose (http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/farth.html).
