It is polygonal, comprised of eight facets (octagonal). The bezel has a moulded, broadly circular base silver setting projecting from its external face. The hoop is rectangular-sectioned and tapers gently inwards from the maximum width of the shoulders to a narrow base. The shoulders and hoop are plain.
Diameter: 27.1 mm; Width: 9.4mm; Thickness: 5.3mm; Weight: 1.79g.
Discussion: The form of the ring is consistent with Henig’s Type IX (1974) and Guiraud’s Type 9a (1989). Henig suggests that polygonal rings date predominantly to the third century AD whilst Crummy notes an example recovered from stratigraphic contexts in Colchester dating to the fourth century AD (1983: pg 49, no 1788).
