Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Incomplete Roman copper alloy finger ring. Broken and distorted integral rectangular band forming a hoop of flattened D-section (width 3.5mm, 2mm thick). The circular bezel (16.5mm) has worn traces of engraving in intaglio; the device is weak but study of an impression suggests that it may represent a standing figure. Later Roman Empire; the engraved metal bezel rather than an intaglio setting probably belongs to the late 4th century. It is paralleled by a series of rings in gold and silver, some with Christian legends and imagery. The ring weighs 4.19g.
